1. Hiya, what's your preferred name and pronouns, and whose country do you live on?
Hey! My name is Tyson (he/him), currently living on Turrbal country.

2. What's your rig rundown?
My current rig is a Nikon D750. Predominantly using a Tamron 24-70mm with a black mist diffuser. I was always using a flash (Nikon sb-800) when shooting with my old camera, a Nikon D3000 that was a 15th birthday present.

Since upgrading to the D750 I’ve found myself not using flash as often. With much better low light capabilities I can shoot without using flash. Plus any extra weight I can save as the 750 and lens I am using is quite heavy already without adding a speed light on top.

With the d3000 and flash I was mainly shooting on a 8mm fisheye.

Occasionally shooting on a canon sureshot 35mm point and shoot, but with the price of film and development I’ve veered away from this.

Other than lenses, batteries and a random assortment of SD cards that are half full, I’ve always got a pair of ear plugs on me.

3. How did you get in to shooting live music?
Always wanted to shoot live gigs since attending as a teen but was always scared of breaking gear haha. Started bringing a point and shoot 35mm to a few gigs, was getting some awesome photos.

I was hired by a band to shoot a gig for them and didn’t wanna be limited by film. So I dusted off my d3000 got a fisheye and shot on that. Kept shooting on that camera for a couple years before upgrading.

4. What/who are some of your influences in photography?
My main influence when I was a teen and one of the reasons I wanted to start shooting was James Hartley (@hartleyphoto)

There are so many great photographers out there right now taking great photos, which always pushes me to take and create better images

Jack Rudder (@thesaddestday)
Aidan Griff (@aidanxgriff)
Chucky Edge (@chuckyxedge)
Shannon Brooke (@shannon_brooke)

And my local photographer friends who I love chatting to at gigs and seeing their photos from the same gig we are shooting

Raimee (@_moonriot)
Shane Oliver (@theshaneoliverexperience)
Nate Rose (@wholelottarosie_)
Marc Roberts (@moby__lick)

There is so many incredibly talented photographers out there and I tend to lean towards photos of people. Whether it be music, street or portrait.

Photos that capture the moment, the emotion. Where you can feel yourself there in the moment. In the age of the internet and content creation there is so much out there to take inspiration from. But what inspires me most is an image where you can feel yourself there.

5. Do you have a favourite show that you've photographed, or a favourite memory from a gig you've shot? Or maybe a particular favourite photograph that you've taken?

There’s a long list of incredible shows I’ve attended and shot. Anti vision Xmas shows have always been a lot of fun. Always a great roster of bands playing, great vibes, kids moshing, hanging with friends. Watching what the Anti Vision (@antivision.aus) team has created up in Nambour has been really special to capture.

Been on a couple of weekend tours with Wetwork (@wetwork.hc) which have always been so much fun and formed some incredible memories with my best mates and taken some really great photos. It’s always fun and a challenge to shoot in a random venue you’ve never been to, watching bands you don’t get to see.

Love shooting and attending DIY gigs. Always good fun, always good vibes, bit more of a relaxed (but chaotic) environment. Great communities and great people.

SUPPORT THESE GIGS.

6. What else do you like to photograph outside of live music?
I love taking photos of my girlfriend, friends, family and dog. Photos of people in the moment, photos of people doing what they love or creating a memory. I like taking photos of people that they can look at and feel confidence within themselves.

I’d love to do more portrait/editorial kinda work.
Heck I’d even love to shoot a wedding one day.

7. How can folks reach out to you if they'd like to get in touch?
Hit me up on my insta! @tys666snaps send me a DM if you’d like to work with me!
