SLOWCUT release new EP 'flesh'

Magandjin/Brisbane post-metal quintet SLOWCUT return with their first new music since 2023’s debut album.

Their latest offering flesh - a two track, 19 minute EP, builds on and distills the cold, atmospheric sludge they were able to capture on their debut. Having garnered comparisons to genre heavyweights Isis and Neurosis, flesh takes a step up in the heaviness of slowcut's sound.

slowcut - flesh

Opening track threaded taps into their stoner doom sensibilities, letting the ebb and flow of a riff guide the listener through space and atmosphere before slowing to a grinding halt in the climactic ending.

The closer martyred lulls you into a false sense of security before cold and crushing instrumentation somehow gets heavier and heavier for the remainder of the track. Jeremy Wittkopp’s scathing lyrics and vocal performance evokes visceral imagery, leaving you feeling empty, and questioning your integrity by the end of the track.

Together, the tracks offer a natural evolution of slowcut’s sound, and a promising indication of things to come.

The band has stuck to a completely DIY approach for this release; guitarist Ben Gibson once again at the helm to record, mix and master the EP at his own Gasworks Recording Studio, and the band self releasing and pressing the vinyl.

flesh will be available on all major streaming platforms from Friday 18 July 2025, with a vinyl release show at Crowbar Brisbane on Sunday 10 August 2025; supported by Naaki Soul, Resin Tomb and Mountain Wizard Death Cult.
